Avec un nom aussi inhabituel que Stonewall Jackson, il faut parfois clarifier les choses. Soixante-dix ans séparent le jour de la mort du célèbre général confédéré de la date de naissance de la grande star du Grand Ole Opry du même nom. Et les deux ont effectivement quelques points communs. Avant tout, ils étaient tous deux inébranlables dans ce qu'ils disaient et faisaient. Pour 'notre' Stonewall Jackson, une sorte de 'conte de fées de la musique country' s'est réalisé : En octobre 1956, Stonewall Jackson quittait la Géorgie pour Nashville, et quelques jours plus tard, il était déjà sur la scène du Grand Ole Opry, dont il ne pouvait plus se passer. Depuis janvier 1957, il avait un contrat avec le label Columbia, pour lequel il enregistrait de la musique country originale et authentique. La première session de Stonewall Jackson a eu lieu le jour même où Sonny James s'est hissé à la première place du hit-parade country avec Young Love - la musique de Stonewall a des origines d'un calibre bien plus intense. Dans le livre qui accompagne ce CD, il parle entre autres d'une enfance cruelle et dure - pauvreté amère et abus inclus. Tout cela s'exprime dans sa musique, qui n'est pas agréable, mais dure et exigeante. Il a réussi de nombreux succès country célèbres qui sont tous inclus ici, dont Life To Go, Waterloo, Why I'm Walking, BJ The DeeJay, A Wound Time Can't Erase, Don't Be Angry et l'original exceptionnel de I Washed My Hands In Muddy Water (repris plus tard par Johnny Rivers , Elvis Presley et bien d'autres).

De nombreux groupes qui jouent de la musique country 'alternative' aiment se réclamer d'un son country hardcore - CECI l'est vraiment ; joué et chanté par le maître en personne, qui raconte en outre son histoire avec ses propres mots.

Nous présentons un total de 124 chansons enregistrées entre 1957 et 1967. Beaucoup d'entre elles n'ont jamais été enregistrées sur CD, et sept titres n'ont jamais été publiés auparavant !
