Howlin' Wolf: Howling Wolf Sings The Blues (LP-Japan)
Howlin' Wolf, un loup qui vivait le blues avec ténacité et détermination. Cette réédition LP d'un album compilé à partir de ses enregistrements de 1951 et 1952 pour le label moderne RPM et publié en 1962 sur Crown Records, également un label moderne. L'album comprend : Willie Johnston à la guitare, jouant un véritable mélange de blues primitif du Delta et d'accords de jazz décalés ; Willie Steele à la batterie et des musiciens inconnus apportant un soutien inégalé ; et Ike Turner au piano vibrant, éructant un blues sauvage et dur sur Wolf in West Memphis. Le piano était désaccordé, la guitare était désaccordée et l'harmonica était désaccordé, mais c'était martelé et magnifique - il n'y avait pas de plus grand choc. Au début de sa carrière, alors qu'il enregistre pour la première fois après l'âge de 40 ans, le hurlement de loup de Bruce est certainement écrasant. Ses enregistrements ultérieurs à Chicago (Chess), avec la guitare de son partenaire Hubert Sumlin qui vole dans les airs, sont également superbes, mais rien n'égale le charme de ce loup sauvage de l'époque de Memphis. Présenté dans la fameuse "Beauty Jacket" de Crown (*Note : le contenu est à 100% du blues sudiste pur et brut. À manipuler avec précaution).

Come Back Home
The first two bars set the tone for the entire record. That very countryish guitar figure will work its way through the chord changes of this 12-bar blues. It's the glue that holds this performance together.
If you listen closely, you'll recognize the tone on that guitar (a pleasant blend of acoustic and ampli- fied) from Track 12. It's blues combo man Willie Johnson, who made his greatest mark as Howlin' Wolf's lead guitar player. And the vocalist here is none other than Chester Burnett, a/k/a The Howlin' Wolf.
The track is called Come Back Home, a title that could have been replaced by half a dozen other phrases from the song. This is little more than a string of vocal blues clichés, made distinctive by the Wolf's vocal stylings (he could have recited the Helena phone directory and gathered a crowd) and the repetitive force of John- son's guitar figure. The truth is, the con- tinuity of that figure is the only thing to suggest this performance is a "song" and not merely a blues jam.
