"The Cruncher"

The release of their debut album (and first record at all!) „Go Sur-fin' with The Cruncher" caused last year some surprise and asto-nishment among instrumental music collectors throughout the world. A swinging and stomping collec-tion of hits from the past with a heavy guitar beat and a pounding rhythm like the surf itself had been achieved by this German group of talented instrumenta-lists, unique in the mastery of their individual sound and style, that had been developed mainly by experimentating for countless hours in Herbert Hooke's home studio. The group are all close friends from Wilhelmshaven and Sande in Northern Germany, only a few miles inland from the coast where the windsurfers do practise their sport from spring to autumn. As you might have guessed, The Cruncher" don't play only the „surf music" but enjoy as well the outdoor sports like windsurfing, sailing and swimming.
They started playing together as a hobby over twenty years ago while still attending high school. Individual professional careers and army service duties stopped the group's activities, though the individuals kept in touch and con-tinued collecting records from the fifties and the sixties. Therefore it is no surprise that the songs contained herein will be familiar to you as The Cruncher" have chosen once again songs from classic surf recordings and famous instrumental groups or writers and arrangers like Lee Hazlewood and Gary Usher, who is their favorite composer and producer. Being established buisiness men means for the group that there is no time for a professional music career with regular concerts and promotional tours; even the work in the studio has to be done in the late hours of the evening or at weekends. So it is obvious that
making music is just the love of a hobby for Herbert Hooke (gtr.), Klaus Brunner(gtr.), Norbert Hau-ke (sax, p., org.), Wolfgang Peters (b.) and Harald Zeidler (rhy.) who now present their exciting new set of instrumentals. I hope you'll find them as enjoyable and danceable as Idol Surfs You right
