Although the Knickerbockers hailed from Bergenfield, New Jersey, anyone listening to the radio in early 1966 would have sworn that they were from Liverpool. That's when the band's overpoweringly infectious signature tune 'Lies' stormed the AM airwaves, convincing many stateside listeners that they were hearing a fab new Beatles single.

Jerk and Twine Time emphasizes the raw immediacy of the Knickerbockers' origins as a live band. Beyond the dance-craze anthem 'Jerk Town' and the venerable R&B instrumental 'Twine Time,' the set offers a memorable mix of the British Invasion, R&B and Motown covers that dominated the band's live repertoire at the time, with memorable renditions of the Zombies' 'She's Not There' and the Kinks anthems 'You Really Got Me' and 'All Day and All of the Night.' They also tear into the Kingsmen's garage novelty 'The Jolly Green Giant,' the Motown standard 'Money (That's What I Want)' and the R&B classics 'Land of 1000 Dances' and 'The 'In' Crowd.' Out of print in its original LP format for nearly half a century, this vintage '60s gem has been sourced from the original mono tapes and pressed on vinyl, with complete original cover art. Die Knickerbocker gründeten sich 1964 als Schlosskönige. Die Gruppe - Buddy Randell von den Royal Teens (er schrieb Short Shorts" mit), Gesang und Saxophon; Jimmy Walker, Schlagzeug und Gesang; John Charles, Bass; und sein Bruder Beau, Gitarre - nahmen ihren Namen von der Knickerbocker Avenue in ihrer Heimatstadt Bergenfield, New Jersey. Entdeckt von Jerry Fuller, einem mäßig erfolgreichen Sänger und sehr erfolgreichen Schriftsteller (`Travellin' Man', `Young World', `Over You' und `Young Girl') und Produzenten (Union Gap und Ricky Nelson), wurden sie 1965 für Challenge verpflichtet. Bald zeigten sie ihr Können als Mimiker, als ihre Beatles-Pastiche "Lügen" im Winter 1965 in die Top 20 schoss. Ful-lers Produktion des Randell-B. Die Charles-Komposition war perfekt und klang eher nach den Beatles als nach den Beatles.

Eine Fortsetzung, "One Track Mind", schaffte es 1966 in die Top Fünfzig, aber dann kam das Scheitern und die Gruppe löste sich auf. Jimmy Walker ersetzte" kurz Bill Medley in The Righteous Brothers, bevor er eine Solokarriere auf Columbia versuchte, und Buddy Randell versuchte dasselbe an Uni und dann Paramount. Cutts Knight, ein schwarz/indianischer Abstammung, wurde 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas, geboren. Er zog 1961 nach New York, wo seine eigenen Platten auf einer Reihe von Labels (Gulf, Shell, R.S.V.P.) seitdem von einer Vereinigung mit Jimi Hendrix überschattet werden. Jimit Knight's'intime Biographie' von Hendrix wurde 1974 veröffentlicht, wurde aber von Kritikern oder Fans nicht ohne Grund aufgenommen. Die beste Solo-Platte von Knight war `That's Why' am Golf, die 1961 unter den Hot Hun-dred sprudelte. Jimi Hendrix spielte und sang auf Tracks, von Curtis Knight and the Squires, hergestellt 1965 für R.S.V.P.
