Peu de compositeurs pourraient énumérer un éventail d'artistes aussi divers que B.B. King , Steppenwolf, Elvis Presley, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, John Denver, Waylon Jennings, The Crusaders, The Kingston Trio et Ringo Starr qui ont repris leurs chansons. La chanson la plus connue de Hoyt Axton, Joy To The World, un tube numéro 1 pour le groupe vocal américain Three Dog Night en 1971, commence par la phrase " Jeremiah était un ouaouaron, était un bon ami à moi ".
Ainsi, après de nombreux albums avec les labels Vee-Jay, Capitol, A&M et MCA au cours des années 60 et 70, quand Axton a lancé son propre label en 1979, il l'a baptisé Jeremiah Records. Ce coffret de 5 CD à clapet contient les cinq albums de Jeremiah Records en fac-similé, ainsi qu'un livret de 32 pages contenant les paroles, les crédits musiciens et les annotations. Le premier album -Rusty Old Halo - met en vedette Della And The Dealer, un succès aux États-Unis et au Royaume-Uni, ainsi que trois autres succès country aux États-Unis. L'album suivant -Where Did The Money Go - (1980) présentait plus de succès, tandis que celui de 1981 -Live - présentait des interprétations de ses chansons rendues célèbres par d'autres, comme No Song, Lion In The Winter, Never Been To Spain et Joy To The World.
Sorti en 1982 et 1990, -Pistol Packin' Mama- et -Spin Of The Wheel- a terminé la carrière télévisuelle et cinématographique d'Axton dans les années 80, notamment dans les Gremlins. John, Stephen Stills, James Burton, Glenn D. Hardin, Jeff Baxter, Garth Hudson, Paul Butterfield, Bill Kirchen et Byron Berline sont les invités musicaux d'Axton à travers les albums.

Sweet Misery
A&M's publishing subsidiary, Rondor, had a deal with Hoyt Axton's Lady Jane Music, and probably prevailed upon the label to issue an album of songs that might not sell but might attract some cover versions. Axton had done well when other artists covered his songs Greenback Dollar, Joy To The World, The Pusher, Never Been To Spain, and others. And so it proved to be again. Martha Reeves covered Sweet Misery on her epically expensive and unsuccessful solo album, but there was a consolation prize when John Denver recorded it on his 'Farewell Andromeda' LP. But the entire album was more than a disguised demo record; it was an understated delight. He seemed to have been listening to J.J. Cale, even to the point of using some of the musicians that Cale often used, and his soulful bullfrog baritone never sounded better.
