(2004 'Q-Records') (51:59/14) A pretty brave and ambitious recording project, a tribute album to one of the greatest blues harmonica players ever, George 'Harmonica' Smith by Finland's leading harp player. Smith who died in L.A. in 1983 was a great musician and friend and tutor to many of his younger colleagues (i.e. Williams Clarke, Rod Piazza). Although he was a master on the chromatic like no other, he never gained the reputation of his contemporaries. Helge first met George in Sweden in 1982. Along with a couple of friends they went to see George at his L.A. home, later that same year. They became close friends. So the news of George's death was a shock. - This album is a showcase for Helge. He really has found George's tone and phrasing. His skills are exceptional. His vocals aren't equally strong. But that's okay. This is a beautiful tribute to one of the greatest blues harp players, ever! Maybe it will put George's name back into the blues limelight. Highly recommended.
