This guy is something special. He was born in 1950 and remained literally unknown until the day of this, his first commercial release. When Fred Kaplan sent me a demo tape a couple of years ago, I was surprised. And I still am. Almost never before I had heard a white man play rural blues in the style of 1920s and '30s theway Long does. He just sounds so real. And he does not re-record so-called classics. He's a writer of his own tunes. This blues ain't up-to-date, it ain't modern - but John Long is an impressive figure. JOHN LONG - voc/gtr/hca, FRED KAPLAN - pno (3 tracks).
